Veganuary is an annual challenge that happens every January, where those taking part try veganism for a month.
It can be a part of your vegan journey
Switching to bamboo toilet paper and kitchen rolls can be a part of your vegan journey. Vegans believe in using products that are cruelty-free and don’t include any animal meat or animal by-products, and some believe that sustainability and veganism go hand in hand. The making of bamboo toilet paper is environmentally friendly, sustainable, and cruelty-free as no animals or habitats are disturbed – this includes pandas. The only bamboo plants that Tiboo Bamboo uses are those that are FSC approved and aren’t the food source for any pandas, so they aren’t affected by the process of cutting bamboo down. As for sustainability, bamboo grows tremendously fast and can grow up to 35 inches per day, so it is a regenerative source, unlike trees which can take longer to grow. The plant also produces 35% more oxygen than normal trees which is helpful for the environment too.
When we think of natural products, we think it might not be as luxurious or effective as the man-made version. With bamboo toilet paper, this is certainly not the case. In fact, it is just as soft and luxurious as any other ordinary toilet paper, if not better. The bamboo pulp that bamboo toilet paper is made from, is naturally soft and doesn’t need any chemicals added to it, unlike normal toilet paper which requires chlorine bleach to make it soft and white. Chlorine bleach is also a harmful chemical, and bleached paper can produce dangerous and carcinogenic toxins (dioxin and furan) which can’t be broken down easily with bacteria, therefore making them persistently damaging to the environment.
Bamboo toilet paper has an array of benefits (environmental and health-wise), and our brand ensures our paper is soft, sustainable, and environmentally friendly from the recyclable cardboard tube down to the packaging – it is truly worth it. If you’re still not convinced, Tiboo Bamboo 3-ply toilet paper is only slightly more expensive than the leading normal 3-ply toilet paper brands in the UK, and you can even get a subscription and save an extra 10%.
Humans use a hefty amount of toilet paper, with the UK using 127 rolls per person per year – that’s a lot of unnecessary waste that we cut down masses of trees for! When toilet paper is flushed, it goes through the sewage system to the sewage treatment plant where it is broken down into compost. Conventional (and even recycled) toilet paper can take up to three years to fully decompose, and can release the harmful toxins along with it, whilst bamboo toilet paper decomposes fully within a year.
Using conventional toilet paper is further damaging to the environment, as this means the industry will have to provide even more stock. This means that the more you use toilet paper, the more trees are grown and cut down, the more animals and habitats are disturbed, and the more carbon emissions made. However, the process of making bamboo is considerably less damaging as it produces 30% less carbon emissions and, in turn, has a smaller carbon footprint, along with using biodegradable materials.
In summary, bamboo is a better option for those that want to limit their carbon footprint, and the amount of long-term waste they produce.
It can easily become a long-term lifestyle change
With Veganuary, it can be hard to stick to a diet you’re not familiar with and to stick to it long-term. By becoming sustainable, you can make it a long-term lifestyle change with a few small changes, starting with toilet paper. You can then go onto kitchen roll, toothbrushes, kitchen utensils, maybe even facial tissue. However small the change, it’s a baby step towards a better, greener future. Start by subscribing today to get your bamboo toilet paper, kitchen roll, facial tissue, or combi pack delivered to your door.
